Epic Pie

Pi-day (and everybody's celebrating)by Fred Pettit and Val Romness

What Makes Pi Epic in 2015

Yep! It’s that time of year again. March is the official or not time for pie eating, pie throwing & discussing the significance of Pi. Pi is the ratio of the circumference to the diameter of a circle, the diameter is two times the radius. The formula is C = π x d=2π x r. The diameter is the longest chord of a circle, the radius is the line from the center to the perimeter.

Pi day is an annual celebration commemorating the mathematical contest Pi. 3.141592653…..etc. A sequential time will occur on 3/14/15 at 9:26:53. Don’t forget to look up at this time for π in the sky. Last year someone put a sky writer plane in the sky to list the special number. The next alignment won’t be for another 100 years. The earliest celebration of pi recorded, occurred in 1988 at the San Francisco Exploratorium. The Guinness-recognized record for the remembered digits of you know what is 67,890 decimal places without an error. It took 24hrs. & 4 minutes to recite.

The hunt for π by the Babylonians & Egyptians nearly 4,000 thousand years ago occured. They had it close, I’m very impressed.

Everyone wants a piece of the pie, so with that in mind, bye bye, I’m off to find a slice!
